2014 AQHA Gelding
15.1 HH
Max brings old school bloodlines that include Doc Bar (progeny earnings over $9,000,000), High Brow Cat (LTE: $110,000, progeny earnings over $98,000,000) and Colonel Freckles (progeny earnings over $4,000,000).
Max brings the great mind his pedigree is known for along with a resume of real world ranch experience, all in a flashy bay package with a dorsal stripe that brings compliments everywhere he goes.
Max has been used for a long list of jobs on the farm from cattle drives, sorting calves and checking pastures.
Whether I need a reliable mount to gather 500 head, or need a trusty horse to loan a friend, Max is the go-to. . He is quiet, sure footed and cowy, eager to work and focused on his job. Max is unmatched in his ability to smoothly pick his way through bush and uneven ground without stumbling or missing a beat. He is careful to watch where to put his feet, even if hunting down a stray cow at high speed.
I can’t say enough good things about this horse; he has never let me down or quit on me, even after a long day on the ranch or a 30 mile cattle drive.
Max also has covered extensive mountain miles and has proved his sure-footedness out west in the Rockies as well. Max has been my main mount for multi-day trips in the Rocky Mountains where he’s been packed with saddle bags, high-lined overnight, crossed rivers, climbed to mountain tops and swam in lakes.
Max was my winter ride go to - easy to hop on bareback for a fun ride down the road in icy temps. Max has been ridden solo and in a group, extensively with dogs under foot. He’s been hauled to arenas, new pastures, ridden to town.
Max rides like a dream in the arena! He has a slow rocking chair style lope, gentle jog, and great stop off your seat! He is soft and responsive, neck reins beautifully, side passes, moves off forehand and haunches.
I have used Max to give arena lessons to confident beginners and he has taken his babysitting job seriously.
Max is a flashy beauty of a bay gelding, with a work ethic that won’t quit on you. He is kind, and careful to take care of his rider, making him a joy to ride at the ranch or on mountain trails.

Hi! My name is Shannon Kavanagh and I consider myself lucky I get to live the cowgirl dream everyday: training horses and preparing them for their long term partner!
My focus in training is to turn out quiet, well rounded horses that have been exposed to a variety of experiences. I enjoy working with young colts, putting a solid foundation on them and ensuring a positive early experience as a saddle horse. I am a firm believer that horses that are taught early how to think through problems are set up for success in life. My program includes desensitization, working cattle, obstacle challenges, outdoor miles with sweaty saddle pads and more. All of my horses make it to the Rocky Mountains, spending 4-7 days in the backcountry – one of my favorite parts of training that has an amazing impact in making a quiet horse that is ready for anything!
